Beach Paintings

After getting back from touring the north east side of the country, I’ve met many influential people. While I was at Rothbury, I stumbled upon a couple sitting in on the ground with a large array of postcards containing the most beautiful pictures of giant landscape paintings. These pieces seem to be done by either spreading contrasting sand colors and shaping by hand, or using large beach rakes to give the sand a rough texture.

Although I didn’t get to speak to the artist, Andres Amador, as much as some of the other artists I met at Rothbury, I would like to share with you some of my favorite images that I have found of his work. Check out the website at the bottom for more information about Andres and his work.

The color difference is created using two different varieties of kodaimai rice, a purple and a yellow variety. This year, lots of Hokusai’s pieces were reproduced in the fields. Most of these fields put crop circles to shame.

Galactic zoo.

I just stumbled across a new project from the bright kids at Oxford University. Galaxy Zoo is a project where users get to help identify images of galaxies, most of which have never been viewed by human eyes before.

Images for the project are taken from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, which uses a 142-megapixel digital camera to create the largest digital map of the universe.
